I read on buses, planes and subways cars; In bed, in bars and restaurants; Wt my desk, the dining table and the kitchen countertop; Sometimes leaning against the sink as I wait for tea to steep. Often on my computer and sometimes on my phone, but usually from something printed on paper. No, I don't have an iPad.

Occasionally I wake up and don't feel like going back to sleep and I'm not quite ready to get up and officially set the day in motion. When this happens I prop myself up and read from the novel at my bedside. This will have been the same novel I fell asleep to the night before. Earlier this week it was Haruki Murakami's 1Q84, which is so goddamned long I'm sure it would have taken me at least another week to finish it, but after a valiant, 200-page effort I shelved the thing.

I just discovered Argentinian artist Juan Gatti, and by discovered I mean read about him on another blog. Perhaps 'happened upon' is more accurate. At any rate I was struck by his combination of two of my favorite things: drawings of the natural sciences (birds, plants, insects) and drawings of the musculature of the human body (I once made a larger-than-life-size, musculature drawing of Manet's "Olympia," and, perhaps as a direct result I received "Cabinet of Natural Curiosites" by Albertus Seba for my birthday a few years later).
